Adultery appears in 34 verses of the World English Bible and adulterer in 12. It is banned in the seventh commandment (Exodus 20:14), carried the death penalty in the Law (Leviticus 20:10), is described by Proverbs as destroying the one who commits it (Proverbs 6:32) and is used by the prophets as a picture of Israel's unfaithfulness to God (Jeremiah 3:8). Jesus widens the command to include lust in the heart (Matthew 5:27-28), treats remarriage after divorce as a form of adultery except for sexual immorality (Matthew 19:9), and shows mercy to a woman caught in adultery (John 8:3-11). David's adultery with Bathsheba and his repentance (2 Samuel 11-12, Psalm 51) show the pattern of sin, confrontation and forgiveness.

Yes, on repentance. Jesus tells the woman caught in adultery 'neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more' (John 8:11), and David is forgiven after confessing (2 Samuel 12:13, Psalm 51). Paul lists adulterers among those outside the kingdom, then adds 'such were some of you' (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
Jesus says that everyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:28). He is saying the commandment reaches the heart; he is not saying a thought has the same consequences as an act.
Jesus permits divorce for sexual immorality (Matthew 5:32, 19:9) and says that marrying a divorced person otherwise is adultery. Christians differ on how widely to apply the exception and on remarriage.
